Mitch Kaplan - Mike Roth

Mitch Kaplan covers skiing, adventure and family travel and, these days, 50-plus travel, as well.

He took up the pen to support his inexhaustible ski habit, writing for local newspapers. He is currently the content editor for Kidznsnow.com, ski columnist for The Record of Hackensack, N.J., and a contributor to, and eastern editor for, Ski & Snowboard America & Canada (Skisnowboard.com).

Kaplan has won three Harold S. Hirsch Awards from the North American Snowsports Journalists Assn., two for Ski Writing for Electronic Media and one for Columns Writing. He's also won a Colorado Ski Country USA Lowell Thomas Award for Ski Writing for Electronic Media.

Kaplan's work has appeared in major magazines, and he has authored seven books, most recently 52 Weekends in New Jersey and The Unofficial Guide to the Mid-Atlantic with Kids. He lives in suburban northern New Jersey with his non-skiing wife Penny, and claims to hold the ongoing and unofficial New Jersey state record for the most days consecutive spent dreaming about playing in the snow.
